Hillsdale Online Courses

Hillsdale College has become one of our closest long-term partners and clients. In 2018, they entrusted Distant Moon with the strategic reboot and creative overhaul of their free online courses program. At the time, every course was shot under flat overhead house lights in front of a background that felt straight from the 1980s. Our key insight for their courses reboot: Content and Form should not be divorced from each other. In other words Incredibly insights and teaching are cemented in students and viewers minds if the WAY in which the teaching occurs mirrors the quality and appeals to the aesthetic and emotional sensibilities of the audience/students.

Since our pilot test of creating two online courses, the new format, style, and strategy we pioneered for Hillsdale College’s Free Online Courses laid the groundwork for an ongoing collaboration with the school on over 25 courses. The platform now boasts over two million unique users and our courses, trailers, and marketing assets created by the Distant Moon team have been seen by over a hundred million people around the globe.

Additionally, our work with Hillsdale pioneered a renaissance in online education, with our approach to set custom set builds, cinematography, editorial, motion graphics and sound design, now being copied and lauded across the world.
